Witch on the Holy Night opens in U.S. and Canadian theaters on January 29, 2027. Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment announced the date on September 10, confirming screenings in Japanese with English subtitles and an English dub.
Japan gets the ufotable film earlier, on November 20, 2026. That is why the Japanese posters below carry “11.20” even though North American audiences are being given a January date: the campaign covers different theatrical markets, not a single simultaneous opening.

When is the movie coming to your country?
The international rollout begins on January 21, with later openings across January and early February. These are selected dates from the distributors’ announcement:
| Market | Theatrical opening |
|---|---|
| Japan | November 20, 2026 |
| Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates | January 21, 2027 |
| Germany and Austria | January 26, 2027 |
| France and Belgium | January 27, 2027 |
| Australia, New Zealand, Mexico and Brazil | January 28, 2027 |
| United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland and India | January 29, 2027 |
| Spain and Kazakhstan | February 5, 2027 |
January 29 is therefore the North American opening, not the first worldwide release. Individual theaters still determine their own showtimes and which audio version they carry. For an English-dub screening, check the format on the cinema listing rather than assuming every session is dubbed.
Is this a Crunchyroll streaming release?
No streaming date was included in the September 10 announcement. Crunchyroll’s involvement here is as a theatrical distributor alongside Sony Pictures Entertainment. The January dates refer to cinema screenings, not episodes or a film appearing in the subscription catalog.
What is Witch on the Holy Night about?
Also known as Mahoutsukai no Yoru or Mahoyo, the film adapts the 2012 TYPE-MOON visual novel written by Kinoko Nasu. Its starting point is Aoko Aozaki, a high-school student learning to become a magician while living with Alice Kuonji. A boy’s arrival brings their lives together.
The Japanese cast includes Haruka Tomatsu as Aoko, Kana Hanazawa as Alice and Yusuke Kobayashi as Soujyuro Shizuki. The announcement confirms an English-dub release but does not name its performers.

Why the two posters look different
The film’s official website released a paired set of visuals on August 1. The interior scene is ufotable’s second key visual, while the view from the mansion gates is a special illustration by original character designer Hirokazu Koyama. One presents the film studio’s version of the setting; the other connects the campaign to the visual novel’s artist.
Despite the shared TYPE-MOON name, this is not a newly announced Fate season. The release adapts Witch on the Holy Night itself, with Aoko’s early life at its center.
