The Detective Is Already Dead Season 2 begins broadcasting in Japan on October 7, 2026. The official website now lists the day and channel times, while its September 4 update adds a third trailer and two new cast members: Akari Komiyama as Mia Whitlock and Nobuhiko Okamoto as Scarlet.

For anyone still seeing a July date, that schedule has been superseded. The production announced a move from July to October in March, citing production circumstances. The new schedule gives that autumn window a specific day.

October 7 broadcast and streaming times

Japan’s release is staggered across channels and streaming services. AT-X has the earliest television slot on the official schedule; TOKYO MX airs an hour later.

What is confirmed for viewers outside Japan?

Crunchyroll’s September 15 fall lineup confirms Season 2 will start streaming with subtitles on October 7. Its listed territories include North, Central and South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, the CIS and Southeast Asia.

As of September 17, the platform still lists the upload time and dub airtime as to be announced. Viewers in the U.S. and Canada now have a streaming date, but should not use the Japanese channel times above as their Crunchyroll schedule. Check the regional listing for the exact hour and any later dub launch.

Mia Whitlock and Scarlet join the cast

The September 4 character announcement introduces Mia Whitlock as the Priestess and Scarlet as the Vampire, both members of the Tuners. Komiyama voices Mia, and Okamoto voices Scarlet. Their inclusion gives returning viewers two concrete additions to look for without needing to spoil how their roles unfold.

The third trailer also previews the new theme songs: Koume’s “Kono Shinzo ni Hanataba wo” for the opening and Kagura Nana’s “Hakuchumu” for the ending. Manabu Kurihara returns as director at ENGI, with Deko Akao on series composition and Yosuke Ito on character designs.

Should you watch Season 1 first?

This remains a continuation of the mystery series built around Kimihiko Kimizuka and detective Siesta, not a reboot with an unrelated lead. The original story comes from light novels by nigozyu, illustrated by Umibouzu.

The first season establishes Kimihiko’s partnership with Siesta and the cases that pull his life away from ordinary school days. Start there if you are joining now. Returning viewers can use it to refresh those relationships before Mia and Scarlet enter the story, without reading ahead in the novels for answers.
