How we chose these manhua

A huge chapter count is not the same thing as sustained quality. We looked for a clear creative identity, readable character motivation and enough variation to survive beyond the first power upgrade. Some recommendations are major commercial series; others earn their place by doing one thing exceptionally well.

We also checked country of origin. This list does not quietly pad its numbers with Korean manhwa or Japanese manga. Manhua means Chinese comics, including works from mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. A vertical layout alone does not determine origin.

English names are less stable here than in most manga publishing. One work may circulate under a literal translation, a licensed title and a fan-familiar alternate title. We include useful alternatives where they help readers identify the same series, but we do not link to unauthorized mirrors.

Read it if: you enjoy military strategy more than simple hero worship.

2. Blades of the Guardians

A wandering escort crosses the Sui dynasty’s brutal frontier carrying debts, secrets and a capacity for violence that the artwork never sanitizes. The appeal is immediate—bold silhouettes, dust, blades and movement—but the series gradually reveals the political pressure behind its duels. It is cinematic without feeling hollow.

3. Song of the Long March

Also known as Chang Ge Xing, this historical drama follows a princess who survives a palace coup and learns to think beyond revenge. Its expressive ink work and political restraint make the unfinished publication status especially frustrating. Read it for the journey, not the promise of a perfectly sealed ending.

4. Feng Shen Ji

Gods rule through force, humanity pays the cost and rebellion is drawn with enough color and scale to feel mythic. Feng Shen Ji is unapologetically operatic: colossal powers, furious confrontations and moral lines rendered in broad strokes. Subtle it is not; memorable it absolutely is.

5. The Outcast

Known in Chinese as Yi Ren Zhi Xia, this urban supernatural story mixes hidden martial traditions with modern conspiracies and a hero discovering that his family history is anything but ordinary. Its mythology expands aggressively, but Feng Baobao’s strange, deadpan presence keeps the series from becoming another solemn secret-society drama.

6. Nan Hao & Shang Feng

Two school friends turn ordinary days into beautifully timed stupidity. The art can jump from loose setup to absurdly detailed punchline in a single panel. There is no sprawling plot to decode; the pleasure is rhythm, friendship and the suspicion that these boys share one brain cell.

Read it if: you need a series that becomes funny within minutes rather than “after chapter 40.”

7. Please Take My Brother Away!

Shi Miao would like one peaceful day without her infuriating older brother. The series understands that sibling affection often arrives disguised as sabotage, embarrassment and food theft. Episodes are quick, but the comedy gains warmth as the family’s circumstances come into focus.

• Best for: short sibling comedy whose affection survives constant irritation.
• Keep in mind: episodic jokes matter more than a large continuous plot.

8. The King’s Avatar

A professional esports player is pushed out of the team he helped build and starts again from an internet café. The manhua adaptation captures the tactical pleasure of mastery without pretending that raw talent solves workplace politics. Game terminology can be heavy, yet Ye Xiu’s calm competence gives the story irresistible forward motion.

9. My Wife Is From a Thousand Years Ago

A swordswoman from the Tang era appears in a modern apartment, where survival now involves rent, phones and learning how not to threaten strangers. The central relationship develops through shared routine rather than constant crisis. 12. Heaven Official’s Blessing

A twice-fallen god ascends again and meets a ghost king whose devotion is far less mysterious than the histories surrounding them. 14. I Am an Evil God

Xie Yan travels between worlds, borrowing different power systems and identities while trying not to become the disposable villain his circumstances suggest. The alternate-world arcs provide something many long cultivation series lack: resets in tone and strategy. It still sprawls, but it has a reason to change scenery.

15. Magic Emperor

Also circulated as Demonic Emperor, this revenge story gives its reborn strategist little interest in behaving heroically. Zhuo Fan wins through manipulation as readily as strength, which is both the hook and the warning. Readers who need a morally clean protagonist should look elsewhere.

16. Top Tier Providence

Han Jue looks at the usual cultivation invitation—adventure, rivals, public glory—and sensibly chooses to stay home. The comedy comes from extreme caution gradually producing extreme power. Its repetitive premise is deliberate, though the joke will work better for readers already familiar with cultivation clichés.

17. Tales of Demons and Gods

Nie Li returns to his youth with the knowledge needed to prevent his city’s destruction. The series helped popularize regression and cultivation combinations for international webcomic readers. Its fast progression is easy to binge; its long-running structure and uneven release history make patience useful.

18. Apotheosis

Luo Zheng falls from privileged heir to enslaved fighter and begins climbing through a universe that expands almost as quickly as his abilities. Apotheosis is pure escalation—new realms, stronger opponents, larger cosmology. It is best approached as a long progression ride, not intimate character drama.

19. Martial Peak

Few series embody the promise and danger of endless cultivation as completely. Yang Kai’s path offers an enormous supply of realms, conflicts and breakthroughs. That abundance can be comforting or exhausting. Read it if you want a project measured in hundreds of hours, not a tightly edited weekend binge.

20. Release That Witch

An engineer wakes as a prince in a world where women with supernatural abilities are persecuted as witches. He applies modern knowledge to technology, governance and defense. The attraction is construction as much as combat, although the story’s broad cast and adaptation compression can leave some relationships underdeveloped.

What should you read first?

If you are completely new, do not start by asking which series has the most chapters. Start with the experience you want. Comedy and romance have a much lower vocabulary barrier than cultivation, while historical works may assume familiarity with names, ranks and political structures.

Legal English availability is fragmented. Some works have licensed print editions; others appear through digital publishers whose catalog or regional service can change. Search the exact title and creator on an official publisher’s site, confirm that the edition is licensed for your region and avoid sites that reproduce entire commercial catalogs without credits.
