The important distinction is format, not chronology. Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint began as singNsong’s prose novel; the WEBTOON is a visual adaptation credited to UMI and Sleepy-C, while the collected comic books package that adaptation for print. All three begin with Kim Dokja entering the scenario system. None is a sequel to another edition.

Novel or WEBTOON: which should you read first?

Choose the novel when Kim Dokja’s internal reasoning, the original narrative voice and detailed world-building matter most. Prose has more room for what he notices, hides and misinterprets. That extra interiority becomes increasingly valuable as the story’s relationship with “the reader” grows more complicated.

Choose the official WEBTOON when visual action and a lower-friction entry matter more. Sleepy-C’s artwork makes scenarios, constellations and scale immediately legible, and the episode format is easier to sample before committing to a very long story. The trade-off is compression: narration, transitions and small pieces of context cannot all receive the same space as the novel.

Yen Press maintains the English prose edition as a separate series. At this update, its official catalog lists volumes 1 through 5. Read them numerically: volume 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. Check the publisher catalog again before buying a complete set because the English release is still expanding.

English comic volumes in order

The collected English comic edition is a different product line. Yen Press currently lists comic volumes 1 through 13. Read those books numerically from volume 1. Comic volume 13 is not the material that follows novel volume 13; matching numbers across the two catalogs do not identify matching scenes.

Switching from the WEBTOON to the novel

Restarting the novel from the beginning is the safest option. The recommendation is not a criticism of the WEBTOON. It avoids missing internal narration, altered emphasis and chapter boundaries that do not stay permanently aligned with episode numbers. It also prevents an unofficial conversion chart from sending you several scenes too far ahead.

If restarting would stop you from reading at all, use the last major event you remember. Find that scene in the licensed novel and begin a little earlier. Verify the event itself—location, participants and outcome—instead of trusting a claimed one-to-one chapter number.
